Supreme Court has rejected a plea of the Gujarat Congress for counting of at least 20 per cent of VVPAT slips manually along with votes cast in electronic voting machines in each constituency, says PTI.

The apex court dismissed the plea arguing that it cannot override the Election Commission's complete discretion to conduct polls, the Times of India reported.

Following the refusal, the Congress said it was ready to scale down the demand to counting of 10 per cent of EVM paper trail.

However, the SC said it found no merit in Congress plea.  -- Agencies
