On the 61st death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the newly-minted Bhim Army has demanded that Mumbais Dadar train terminus be renamed Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Terminus.

In an attempt to catch the attention of the Railway ministry and the government, Bhim Army workers have plastered the Dadar station with posters of 'Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Terminus'.

We want to bring it to the notice of the Railway Minister and so we chose this day to demand that Dadar Terminus be renamed, Raju Zanke, Bhim Armys Maharashtra Pradesh Core Committee told Rediff.com's Prasanna D Zore on the phone.

Zanke said that lakhs of Ambedkars followers visit Dadar Station every day on their way to Chaitya Bhoomi, where Dr Ambedkar was cremated on December 6, 1956.

He lived in Raj Gruha, in Dadar Central and Dadars Ambedkar Bhavan too has been a centre of Dr Ambedkars agitation for the rights of Indias Dalits, Zanke said underlining the importance of Dadar to the followers of Dr Ambedkar.

Zanke said Bhim Army volunteers have plastered posters of 'Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Terminus' all over Dadar Terminus including the ticket windows, entrances to the station and at a number of platforms in the station.

The Bhim Army and its leader Chandrashekjhar Azad shot into prominence in Uttar Pradesh after it spearheaded a campaign against the violence against Dalits in Uttar Pradeshs Saharanpur District on May 5. Azad, who was arrested soon after this agitation was released on bail on November 2 by the Allahabad High Court but was charged under the stringent National Security Act.
