UPDATE: Bihar struggles with flooding after heavy rains

At a time when people across the country are busy celeberating Independence Day on Tuesday, nearly 70 lakh people have been affected by the floods in Bihar and fighting for survival and safety.

Though the floods officially claimed lives of 41 people, unconfirmed reports say the death toll due to the floods is 90.

Bihar disaster management department officials said that nearly 70 lakh people in 895 panchayats under 86 blocks in 15 districts have been affected by the floods in the state."So far 41 people were killed due to floods in the state".

But unconfirmed reports put the death toll to 90.

Bihar disaster management department principal secretary Pratyaya Amrit said government has deployed 4 army teams, 22 NDRF, 15 SDRF teams in relief and rescue operations in flood affected districts.

According to officials, crops worth crores of rupees were damaged and road link to several places had been snapped.
