PM launches low-cost flights capped at Rs 2500

PM Narendra Modi has launched the UDAN scheme, a regional air connectivity programme under which the fares of flights will be capped at Rs 2500 for an hour-long flight of 500 km.

The PM launched the UDAN scheme from Shimla. UDAN an acronym for Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik, is aimed at boosting regional connectivity, PTI reported. Flights were launched on the Kadapa-Hyderabad, Nanded-Hyderabad and Shimla-Delhi sectors.

Airlines will block 50% seats for cheap travel.
Five airlines, 128 routes to connect  70 airports.  The PM said he Wants to see poor people fly and said tier-2 and  tier-3 cities are becoming growth engines. If aviation connectivity is enhanced in these places, it will be beneficial, he said.
