The Central Bureau of Investigation has lodged a corruption case against its former director Ranjit Sinha.

Sinha is accused of influencing probe into the coal block allocation scam.

The decision to investigate Sinha comes nearly three months after the Supreme Court had ordered constitution of a special investigation team to probe the allegations of "abuse of authority" prima facie committed by the 1974 batch Indian Police Service officer to scuttle the probe in coal block allocation cases.

A special bench headed by Justice M B Lokur had given its verdict based on the report by a special judicial panel, which held that prima facie there was an attempt to influence investigation into the scam by Sinha.

"We are prima facie satisfied that Ranjit Sinha had abused his position as CBI director and it must be probed," the Supreme Court had said.
