For those wondering why the AIADMKs two warring factions have been showing such haste for a merger, the BJPs national executive meeting in Bhubaneswar last weekend had a terse message for the two groups in Tamil Nadu: Merge, and be friendly with the Centre.

The BJP also decided to entrust the task of coordinating with the two groups to Arun Jaitley and M Venkaiah Naidu, while party president Amit Shah will tour Tamil Nadu in the first week of June, after his north-eastern programmes are over.

From the AIADMKs OPS faction, Dr V Maitreyan is the key person to liaise with the BJP. According to him, three meetings have already taken place with the BJP at various levels.

Dr Maitreyan is likely to visit New Delhi on Sunday to meet the BJPs central leadership.
