Tidings from Malabar for Indian hinterland

The by-election result in the Malappuram parliamentary constituency in the Malabar region, held previously by former Minister of State for External Affairs late E Ahamed, has come as a great departure from the electoral politics along Hindu-Muslim polarisation in North India. Secular India can heave a sigh of relief.

Suffice it to say, Malappuram constituency can be a perfect laboratory for the politics of communal polarisation, which the Bharatiya Janata Party mentored by the Hindu fundamentalist RSS, practises robustly and met with stunning success in the recent state election in Uttar Pradesh.
