Srinagar bypoll: Farooq Abdullah extends lead

Counting for Srinagar Lok Sabha bypoll began on Saturday morning, with early trends giving a lead to National Conference president Farooq Abdullah.

Abdullah, who was eralier leading by 1,047 votes, extended his lead to 5,600 votes later.

There are nine candidates contesting for the seat, but it is a direct contest between Abdullah and the ruling Peoples Democratic Partys Nazir Ahmed Khan.

Abdullah, 79, had lost the seat to PDP's Tariq Hameed Karra in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. -- Agencies
