The intelligence agency in the former Soviet republic of Kyrgyzstan has identified a suspect behind Monday's deadly bombing on the St Petersburg subway as a Kyrgyz-born Russian citizen.

"The suicide bomber in the St Petersburg metro was a Kyrgyz national Akbarjon Djalilov, born in 1995," a spokesman for the country's security services said.

"It is probable that he acquired Russian nationality," he added.

At least 11 people were killed and 50 others injured on Monday when an explosion ripped through a subway train in Russia's second-largest city.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which came while President Vladimir Putin was visiting the city, his hometown.
