Explosion on St Petersburg metro kills at least 10

An explosion on the metro in St Petersburg has ripped through a train carriage causing carnage. 

There are unconfirmed reports of casualties from the incident in Sennaya Ploshchad train station.

Eight ambulances are said to be at the scene and there are pictured emerging of bodies strewn across the platform.
   
The Life News website showed pictures of blown-out train doors and several injured people on the station platform.

Metro bosses said there were reports of a blast possibly from an improvised explosive device inside a train. 

Russian President Vladimir Putin was in St Petersburg today for talks on Qatar and has been informed.
