2017 is likely to be a turnaround year for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with many firsts lined up.

For the first time, a hardcore RSS-linked BJP leader may become the President of India, while a diehard RSS person is likely become the vice president/ex-officio leader of the Rajya Sabha.

Apart from this, there are other major steps being taken from next year. GST will come into force in 2017, which is a major taxation reform.

The BJP government may not present its railway budget next year onward, and it will be combined with the Union budget. Also, the Modi government will advance the date of presentation of the Union Budget to January, which will reflect in more robust tax collections by October 2017, as the targeted revenue need not be changed due to the vagaries of monsoon.

The plan and non-plan expenditure will not be reflected in the Union budget from 2017 onward as the five-year Plan has been withdrawn.
