Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday received the first copy of Valmiki Ramayanam, a book authored by T K Jagannathacharya. The book is a reprint of its 1958 edition and is in Sanskrit and Tamil.

The prime minister said the manuscripts are a treasure to India and emphasised the need for digitisation of old books -- be it in any Indian language.

The first copy of Valmiki Ramayanam was handed over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by R Rajagopalan, grandson of the author and a veteran New Delhi-based political journalist (seen in the photograph alongside with the prime minister).
