Indian powerlifter Farman Basha missed out on a bronze medal as he finished fourth in the men's 49 kg category at the Rio Paralympic Games on Thursday.

The 42-year-old briefly raised hopes of securing a medal for the country when he successfully lifted 140 kg in his first attempt, but he subsequently missed on his second and third attempts at 150 kg and 155 kg respectively.

Cong van Le, who set a World Record with a successful lift of 181 kg, won the gold medal while Omar Qarada of Jordan and Hungary's Nandor Tunkel won silver and bronze, respectively.
