Former Union minister Jairam Ramesh is the official biographer of former prime minister Indira Gandhi.

The biography will feature a lifetime of details about Indira Gandhi as told to Jairam Ramesh by various personalities, including daughter-in-law Sonia Gandhi, ranging from her personal details to the excess day of Emergency.

Jairam has so far collected around 300 letters written by Indira Gandhi to many senior Congress leaders, party workers and other political personalities, which would find mention in the book.

Some of the details which will be revealed for the first time include why Indira Gandhi was not allowed into Guruvayurappan temple in Thrissur, why she opted out of an elephant ride, and the backroom confabulations with Choudhary Charan Singh to bring down the Janata Party government headed by Moraji Desai.
