If you are one of the lakhs of income tax assessees getting appreciation e-certificates by email hold the champagne. This is an indirect way of finding defaulters, said a senior CBDT official. The Union Ministry of Finance has issued bronze certificate of appreciation certificates to Indians who have filed their income tax returns. The certificate is signed by the chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes and can be framed and displayed in your house if you so wish.

It reads like this:

"We sincerely appreciate your payment of Income Tax and filing of the Income Tax return for Assessment year 2016-17.

"In recognition of your contribution towards the building of our great nation, please find attached a BRONZE Certificate.
