Water level in 91 major reservoirs increases to 76 pc

The water level in 91 major reservoirs in the country has increased to 76 per cent of their total capacity, from 75 per cent last week, the government said on Friday.
According to Union Water Resources Ministry, 119.174 billion cubic metre of water was available in these reservoirs for the week ending on October 13.
The stock is 127 per cent of the storage reported during the corresponding period last year, while it is 99 per cent of the decadal average, the Ministry said in a statement.
Last week, 118.431 BCM water was available in the reservoirs. The total capacity of these reservoirs is 157.799 BCM.
The states which have recorded less storage vis--vis the corresponding period last year are Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Punjab, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka have reported better stock compared to last year, the statement said.
