United States President-elect Donald Trump and his vice president-elect Mike Pence have spoken over phone with nearly 30 key world leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, after the historic victory of their Republican party in the recently-held American general elections.

PM Modi is one of the first few leaders that the 70-year-old Trump spoke with, Trump's transition team said.

Some of the other global leaders are Chinese President Xi Jinping, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Francois Hollande, Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it said.

Trump has also spoken with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, British Prime Minister Theresa May, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, New Zealand Prime Minister John Key, and Australian Prime Minister Malcom Turnbull.

The list of world leaders was released hours after Trump said in a tweet that he had spoken to several world leaders.
