Cash stashed for years smells like 'rotten leather', banker shares online

The shock announcement of the government's currency ban has meant hours of queues at banks and ATMs for the common man.

But how has life been for those who sit on the other side of the doors?

A post in Humans of Bombay's Facebook page offers a glimpse of heightened tension, long work hours and missed lunches for bank employees - and days that are literally 'breathless'.

"We're receiving black money that had been stashed away for years possibly and all this cash smells like rotten leather to the point where every one of our branches has ordered masks for the cashiers - that's how unbearable the stench became!" reads the post, written by a manager at one of the city's banks.
