Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks at valedictory ceremony of the year-long centenary celebrations of the Karnataka Lingayat Education Society in Belgaum, Karnataka. Excerpts from his address:

- Even political parties, families can't survive for a 100 years. It is great that this institution ran for a 100 years.

- Our universities are not among the top 100 in the world. 10 government and 10 private universities should resolve to achieve this target, and come forward.

- Congress people ask me why I scrapped Rs 1,000/500 notes? When you stopped 25 paise coin, did I ask them anything?

- I did not hide anything from the country. I had said on the first day that 50 days will be needed for this job. I took the country in confidence and did it.

- On the night of November 8, the poor of India were sleeping peacefully while the rich were running for sleeping pills which nobody was there to give them.

- There is 'pain' here, but what is more is 'gain' for the country.

- You have seen people who looted you for 70 years. Give me 70 moths to clean it.
