Karnataka turns 60! PM tweets Rajyotsava wishes

Karnataka is celebrating the 60th anniversary of state formation day on Tuesday.

This was the day in 1956 when all the Kannada language-speaking regions of South India were merged to form the state of Karnataka. 

"My greetings to the people of Karnataka on the auspicious occasion of the state of Karnataka Rajyotsava," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.

Known as Rajyotsava Day, it is customary on this day to take pride in the promotion of the language, literature, culture and traditions of the state and also to honour eminent persons from various fields who hail from Karnataka.

The state government has announced Rajyotsava Awards to 61 eminent personalities to be presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in Bengaluru today. The state information department tableaus on greatness of Karnataka will tour of the entire state starting from today.
