The Delhi police has arrested five people in connection with the recent attacks on African nationals in the capital.

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had directed the Delhi Police to take strict action against the attackers and step up patrolling in the areas inhabited by the community following an appeal by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

In fresh cases, two women -- one from Uganda and the other from South Africa -- and two Nigerian men have filed complaints of physical assault and criminal intimidation.
