Sonowal resigns as sports minister, will take oath as Assam CM

President Pranab Mukherjee has accepted resignation of Sarbananda Sonowal as sports and youth affairs minister. Sonowal is all set to take oath as Assam's new chief minister on Tuesday.

Earlier, Sonowal was unanimously elected as BJP Legislature Party leader in Assam.

Meanhwile, Assam Governor P B Acharya has invited the BJP along with its partners the AGP and the BPF to form the next government in the state.

The BJP won 60 of the 126 assembly seats. The AGP and BPF secured 14 and 12 seats respectively, taking their total strength to 86.
