EC issues notices to Jaya, Karunanidhi over manifesto promises

The Election Commission has issued notice to general secretary of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam J Jayalalithaa and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief M Karunanidhi, based on complaints alleging that certain promises made in the manifestos of their parties are against guidelines.

The EC has given both the Dravidian parties time till 5 pm tomorrow to explain their stand on the same.

The AIADMK released its manifesto on Thursday, promising a slew of freebies, assuring mobile phone to all ration card holders, free 100 units of power and Wi-Fi in public places if it was voted to power for another term.

The DMK manifesto also promised cell phones at subsidised rates and 10GB free Internet for students if voted to power.
