Shoes and bottles were hurled at former Punjab chief minister Captain Amrinder Singh during a gathering in California yesterday.

The untoward incident took place when Captain Amrinder was addressing the people of Indian origin. One of the kin of a victim of the 1984 Delhi riots reportedly wanted to question the Congress leader over his recent remark that 'Jagdish Tytler had no role in killing of Sikhs in Delhi', but he was asked to keep quiet by Captain Amrinder's supporters.

As the former chief minister was about to leave the venue under tight security, a group of Sikh separatists started raising pro-Khalistan slogans and threw shoes and bottles at him.

Confirming the clash, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, attorney, Sikhs for Justice, said: "It's unfortunate that instead of answering questions regarding his statement about Tytler's role in 1984 Captain Amrinder took support of his henchmen and created an atmosphere of fear."
