Dalit woman burnt to death by in-laws for dowry

A Dalit woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands at Berkhedi village in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh today, police said.

The woman, identified as Rakhi, was married to Popin a month ago.

She was found burnt to death today, additional superintendent of police (Dehat) Jagdish Sharma said.

The victim's family alleged she was strangled to death and then burnt, the ASP said.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman's family, a first information report was lodged by police following which her husband, brother-in-law and mother-in-law were arrested, Sharma said.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, police said.
