Justice Gowda opts out of hearing Ayodhya plea, 2nd judge to do so in a month

Supreme Court judge V Gopala Gowda has recused himself from hearing the criminal appeals pertaining to the demolition of the disputed structure at Ayodhya.     

The appeals would now be placed before the Chief Justice of India for allocation of the matters to some other bench.  

Justice Gowda is the second Supreme Court judge to recuse himself in one month. 

In the first week of February, Justice U U Lalit, who was part of the bench led by Justice Gowda, had recused himself from hearing a plea seeking basic amenities for devotees visiting the disputed site in Ayodhya.
