Kolkata flyover tragedy: Murder charge against officials dropped

The murder charge against 10 officers of a construction firm were dropped from the first chargesheet filed by Kolkata Police in connection with the collapse of a portion of under-construction Vivekananda flyover that killed 26 people about three months ago. 

 The murder charge, under which the 10 officers of the construction company IVRCL were arrested, were dropped from the chargesheet submitted at the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM-1) Dr Madhumita Basu.

Instead, the ten were charged under IPC sections 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) in the over 2,000-page chargesheet.
