In an unfortunate turn of events, the makers of Shorgul have decided to push the release date of the film to 1st July 2016 instead of 24th June 2016.

Statement from the filmmakers:

Swatantra Vijay Singh, Producer, Shorgul: We have been forced to postpone the release of our film to the 1st of July. There is a sense of apprehension in the exhibition sector pertaining to the showcasing of the film and a lot of cinema managers have expressed their reservation. Despite our repeated reassurances there are certain theatre chains who have maintained their stand of not showcasing the film. As first time producers we find ourselves in a handicapped position with minimal support being garnered from the relevant stakeholders. Our film is a creative piece of expression inspired by humanity. It has a strong message for the common man and we hope to receive unrelenting support from the masses to ensure  a smooth release on the proposed new date."

A fatwa has been issued against actor Jimmy Sheirgill for starring in political drama Shorgul, which has also been banned in several cities of Uttar Pradesh, the films makers said yesterday.

The makers are planning to approach the states Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to resolve issues regarding the ban in places like Muzaffarnagar, Kanpur, Ghaziabad and Lucknow. Shorgul is a political drama which also touches upon the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots.
