Gurudas Kamat withdraws resignation, returns as Cong gen secy

Just in: Gurudas Kamat withdraws his resignation from the Congress. Kamat, who had quit the party recently said, "During last fortnight a large number of senior party leaders tried to convince me to rethink the decision. Meeting with party president Sonia Gandhi helped me to make up my mind that Congress is the best platform to serve the people. Will continue to serve under the leadership of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Will meet the people of my in-charge states starting tomorrow."

Kamat had quit the party on June 6.

Reports said that senior Congress leaders AK Antony and Ahmed Patel held separate meetings with Kamat last week. Senior congress leader Sushil Kumar Shinde also indicated that the party will be able to assuage his concerns.

There were reports that he was not happy with the politics being played by Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam and AICC general secretary Mohan Prakash, who is in charge of party affairs in Maharashtra.
