Refuting reports that a member of the Indian cricket team was arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Harare, Zimbabwe, sources within the ministry of external affairs have said, "Report is false, no Indian cricketer involved in an alleged case of rape in Harare."

Controversy erupted after a Zimbabwe daily reported that an Indian cricketer had been arrested in Zimbabwe on charges of raping a local woman.

Assistant commissioner Harare police, Charity Charamba, confirming the incident, was quoted as saying, There are allegations of rape against an Indian national by a Zimbabwean woman."

We have investigated and forwarded the case to the courts for determination and now we are waiting for the outcome. All I can confirm is that the accused appeared in court on Saturday.

The incident allegedly took place at Meikles hotel in Harare where the Indian team is staying.

The Indian national cricket team is currently on tour of Zimbabwe, where they whitewashed the hosts in the one-day series. However, the visitors lost their opening T20 match yesterday by 2 runs.
