Under attack from the Congress and other Opposition parties for the alleged forced conversions and contentious statements by leaders from RSS-the parent body of BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly threatened to quit from the PM's post if the RSS leaders do not stop making such controversial remarks.

"Modi, who held a meeting with the RSS leaders to express his disappointment, also said that he does not have greed to remain in the post if the image of the government is hampered by the leaders who keep making controversial remarks," a report in the Marathi newspaper Maharashtra Times said.

The RSS, thereafter, gave a green signal to the government to take action against leaders who indulge in making controversial statements, it said.

The report in a section of local media said that Modi has told the top brass of the RSS that the image of government is getting hampered because of the loose statements made by some their leaders.

BJP leaders are of the opinion that the BJP-led NDA government has come to power on the issue of good governance, and by such controversial statements it is getting a colour of fanaticism, the report said.
