A New York Times report on the Tanmay Bhat snapchat video controversy addresses Lata Mangeshkar as 'a so-called playback singer' for Bollywood films, but refers to Sachin Tendulkar as a 'hugely popular cricketer'.

In a report titled 'Mumbai Police Ask for Video Mocking Celebrities to Be Deleted', the famed US newspaper wrote, 'In the expletive-laced video, which was created on Snapchat, Mr. Bhat uses that app's face-swap feature to impersonate Sachin Tendulkar, a hugely popular cricketer who retired in 2013, and Lata Mangeshkar, a so-called playback singer for Bollywood films whose career dates to the 1940s. Playback singers record vocals for song-and-dance numbers, to which actors and actresses lip sync.'

Stand-up comedian Tanmay Bhat sparked outrage after he recently posted a Snapchat video online, taking digs at Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar.

In a conversation with Spotboye, Mangeshkar refrained from making a statement about the video, saying, "I have not seen the video, neither do I have any inclination to do so. I will not comment about it."

Yesterday, the city police, through Google and Facebook, got the controversial video deleted. The cyber crime cell has been asked to delete copies of the video posted through proxy servers.
