The Islamic State has attacked two energy plants in north Iraq, killing at least five people, says a report from Reuters.

Armed militants, believed to be wearing suicide vests, attacked the Bai Hassan oil field near the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk. They have also taken four workers hostage, a senior security source in the city was quoted as saying by CNN.

One attacker remains in the facility, while two were killed by security forces and another detonated himself when security forces responded.

IS-affiliated Amaq news agency has released a statement claiming responsibility for the attack.
