Hours after BJP contradicted Mehbooba Mufti's stand by saying that forces were aware of Wani's presence, Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh has make a u-turn.

Toeing CM's line Singh said, "If we would have known about this (Burhan Wani's encounter), we would have taken better precautionary measures."

"When the encounter took place, security personnel informed that four terrorists were killed, Identification took place later," said Singh.

On Thursday, Mehbooba had said the security forces were not aware of Hizbul commander Wani's presence during the July 8 raid at his hideout at Kokernag in South Kashmir in which he was killed.

However, on Saturday, Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Sat Sharma said that security forces had the knowledge of Wani's presence at the encounter site.
