Tata Steel has been ordered to pay more than 2 million (approximately Rs 17 crore) after two workers suffered serious injuries at one of its Northamptonshire plants.

A 26-year-old employee lost the middle and ring fingers on his left hand while trying to clear a blockage on machinery at the companys site in Corby, Northamptonshire, in September 2014, while a 52-year-old lost part of his little finger when his hand was caught in a lathe at the same plant in February 2015.

The two incidents were investigated by the Health and Safety Executive, which found the guarding on the two machines was inadequate.

Judge Rupert Mayo ordered the company to pay the fine, saying the injuries were the result of two subsequent and avoidable incidents.
