At least 50 people have died after an explosion ripped through an area in Kabul during a protest rally by Shia Hazaras. The members of minority community had gathered to protest over a key power transmission line, police said.

Officials said that there 3 suicide bombers at the rally -- the first detonated explosives, while the second's vest turned out to be defective and the third was killed by security officials.

One of the march organizers Laila Mohammadi said she arrived at the scene soon after the blast and saw "many dead and wounded people."

Seddiq Sediqqi, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, says police were working to confirm initial reports of the blast.
