India launches massive search ops over Bay of Bengal for missing IAF plane

Indian Air Force AN-32 plane with over 29 on board goes missing over the Bay of Bengal. The plane took off from Chennai at around 8:30 am and was headed to Port Blair in the Andamans.

The aircraft had 29 personnel, including six crew, on board.

A full scale search and rescue operation has been launched with the Indian Navy diverting four ships to look for the missing aircraft. One IAF plane has also joined the search ops.


TV reports say that the last contact with the plane was around 15 minutes after take-off. The defence ministry says it was a courier aircraft.

The Navy has launched surveillance aircraft to look for the missing plane in the Bay of Bengal. A Dornier aircraft has also been sent and four ships,  Karmukh, Gharial, Jyoti and Kuthar have been diverted to the region at full speed.
