1.96 lakh pilgrims pay obeisance at Amarnath

More than 1.96 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir as the pilgrimage entered 21st days today. "On the 21st day of Amarnath Yatra, 2,910 pilgrims paid obeisance at the holy cave. Till date, 1,96,382 yatris have paid obeisance," an official spokesman said today. 

A fresh batch of 1,207 pilgrims today left for twin base camps of Amarnath cave shrine in South Kashmir amidst tight security. A total of 1,207 pilgrims -- 884 men, 276 women and 47 sadhus -- left in a 39 vehicles from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for the two base camps of Pahalgam and Baltal in Kashmir, a police officer said. 

Meanwhile, the district administration has commenced 'spot registration' of Amarnath pilgrims at Vaishnavi and Saraswati Dhams in Jammu, dispensing with the token system. 

The Jammu district administration took this decision in view of sufficient availability of quota for spot registration of Amarnath yatris, an official spokesman said.
