Rajnath condemns Dalit attacks, but praises Gujarat govt

Home Minister Rajnath Singh making a statement in the Lok Sabha on the attack on six Dalit youths in Una, Gujarat.

"The government strongly condemns the attack on Dalits in Gujarat. Nine accused have been arrested -- 7 remanded to judicial custody, 2 sent to police custody.

"PM Modi is upset about the attack on Dalits in Gujarat. We strongly condemn the Una incident. The PM has taken cognizance of the issue.

"Four police officials have been suspended for negligence of duty," the home minister says.

Opposition uproar in Lok Sabha after Rajnath Singh praises efforts of Gujarat govt in handling the situation post the Una incident.

After the Speaker calms the Opposition, the home minister continues, "To ensure speedy trial of the matter, the state govt is working towards forming a special court for hearing. Atrocities against Dalits are a social evil. We must take it up as a challenge. Urge all parties to come together to fight this," he said.
