Assam flood situation remains serious, 1 dies

One person died after being swept away in swirling flood waters which has submerged homes and fields in seven Assam districts and affected the lives of nearly 1.77 lakh people in the state.

According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority, one person died at Narayanpur in Lakhimpur district being swept away in swirling flood waters. 

An ASDMA spokesman said today nearly 1.77 lakh people are reeling under flood in 267 villages across Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Golaghat, Morigaon, Dhemaji, Biswanath and Sivasagar districts.

At present, Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat in Jorhat, Dikhow at Sivasagar town and Dhansiri at Numaligarh in Golaghat, the spokesman said. Authorities are running 25 relief camps in three districts, where 4,736 people are sheltered. Over 13,300 hectares of crop land are under water in the state.
