MHA presents report card to PM

The Union Home Ministry today gave a detailed presentation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the country's internal security scenario and the steps taken to strengthen it through multi-pronged strategy.

Led by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the top brass of the Home Ministry briefed the prime minister on issues ranging from terrorism, infiltration from across the border, activities of left wing extremism, situation in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast during the three-hour-long meeting.

Sources said the prime minister reviewed the steps taken to strengthen the internal security situation in the country and how to improve them further. The multi-pronged strategy include anti-militancy operations in different theatres, peace talks with some insurgent groups and development initiatives in Naxal-hit states, the prime minister was told, the sources said.

The prime minister was also briefed about the illegal immigration from Bangladesh, fencing work along the Indo-Bangladesh border, modernisation of police forces and filling up of vacancies among other things.
