Datta Padsalgikar will be the new Commissioner of Police of Mumbai. He will replace the current Police Commissioner Ahmed Javed, who will retire on January 31.

Padsalgikar, a 1982 IPS batch officer, has recently been relieved from the post of additional director of the Intelligence Bureau in New Delhi.

Padsalgikar, known for his high integrity and credibility, will be the 40th police commissioner of Mumbai.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis wanted to appoint Padsalgikar as police commissioner choice after Rakesh Maria, but, at that time, the officer preferred to serve in the IB.

Padsalgikar has served in several embassies, including the United States.
