Mumbai: Speeding Merc hits people sleeping on pavement, 5 hurt

A speeding Mercedes car hit people sleeping on a pavement in south Mumbai past midnight on Friday, injuring five.

The incident occurred around 12:30 am in the Masjid Bunder area when the white convertible, with a Jharkhand number plate, reportedly drove over a pavement, crashing into a Toyota car. The driver, Amin Khan, reportedly fled the spot but was later arrested.

"Investigation is happening right know... However, we are not sure of the number of persons inside the car... It can be determined only after thorough investigation," said Ashok Dudhe, a senior police officer.

The injured are being treated at the government-run JJ Hospital.
