Eminent danseuse Mrinalini Sarabhai, who was admitted to an Ahmedabad hospital on Wednesday morning following age-related complications, died this morning. She was 97 years old.

Her daughter, dancer Mallika Sarabhai, confirmed the news on social media, posting on Facebook: My mother Mrinalini Sarabhai has just left for her eternal dance.

The Padma Bhushan awardee is survived by two children, Mallika and son Kartikeya.

Mrinalini and her husband, renowned space scientist Vikram Sarabhai, had set up the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts in Ahmedabad in 1949, to offer courses in Bharata Natyam, and other Indian classical arts. For the last many years, Darpana was being run by Mallika.
