Securitymen-militants gunbattle breaks out in J&K village

A gun battle broke out tonight between security forces and militants holed up in a village in Pulwama district of south Kashmir, a police official said.

Mukhtar Ahmed/ Rediff.com reports that the troops of 53 Rashtriya Rifles and police cordoned off Naina Batapora village this evening following information about the presence of the militants in the area.
 

As the security forces were busy searching the area, hiding militants opened fire at the security forces triggering an encounter, a RR official said.

The security forces returned the fire, triggering the encounter which was going on till last reports came in, the official said adding there were no reports of any casualties on either side so far.
