Home Secy to depose before parliamentary panel on Chennai floods action

A Correspondent: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs chaired by Congress MP from Rajya Sabha P Bhattacharya will on Monday hear Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi deposition on the recent disaster in Chennai caused by torrential rainfall and consequent flooding.

Four MPs from Tamil Nadu, including Dr V Maitreyan and D Raja, are expected to raise questions pertaining to the release of funds and allegations of Centre's casual treatment towards the floods. 

CPM leader Sitaram Yechury will initiate the debate. 

Officials of six Union ministries are also expected to be in the meeting to answer questions of the high-level central team which visited Tamil Nadu.

In the 31-member Parliamentary Standing Committee, the BJP has 13 members, Congress-04, BJD-02, Trinamool Congress-02, AIADMK-03, CPI-M, CPI, SP, TRS, TDP, Shiromani Akali Dal and Shiv Sena one each. NDA members have majority in the panel.
