Stay on jallikattu to continue, says SC dismissing fresh pleas

Just in: Supreme Court stay on Jallikattu to continue. Petitions supporting Jallikattu dismissed by Supreme Court, which has put on hold the bull-taming sport in Tamil Nadu.

The Supreme Court yesterday stayed the Centre's notification lifting the ban on the controversial bull taming game as an interim measure.

The court rejected the plea of ministry of environment and forests and Tamil Nadu that Jallikattu is part of the ancient tradition and culture and should not be stopped as there were enough safeguards provided in the January 7 notification.
