PM orders NIA to file two FIRs in Pathankot attack
January 11, 2016  15:59
Why did Prime Minister Narendra Modi order the the National Investigations Agency to register suo-moto, two FIRs, in the Pathankot terror attack?

Whatever the reason, it's certanly left the Akalis red-faced.

The first terror strike in Punjab's Gurdaspur had left seven people dead in July 2015. Three suspected Pakistan-based terrorists attacked a passenger bus and stormed a police station before being gunned down after a 12-hour firefight.

The Modi government had requested Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to allow the NIA to probe the incident, but the Badals had declined.

The PM had let the matter rest. But this time, an angry PM directed the NIA to go ahead and file an FIR without even asking the Akali government.

While one FIR related to the killing of a taxi driver, the other was the mysterious escape of three persons including the SP of Punjab Police from the clutches of the Pakistani fidayeen squad.

As we write this, the Gurdaspur SP has been interrogated by the NIA.
