Baghdad mall attack over, at least 12 dead: officials

An attack on a mall in Baghdad today that left at least 12 people dead has ended, Iraqi security and medical sources said.

"The security forces are now fully in control, the gunmen have been killed and the hostages have been freed," a senior police officer said. 

Several gunmen blew up a car bomb and sprayed bullets in a crowded area and took hostages in a shopping mall in eastern Baghdad on Monday, killing at least 12 people, police said. 

According to reports, at least 25 people were injured in the attack.

The officials had earlier estimated that 50-75 people were trapped in the mall.
