5.0 magnitude quake jolts Afghanistan, Pak; tremors felt in J-K

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region and sent tremors as far Jammu and Kashmir today. Tremors were felt in Poonch in J-K and Pakistan's capital city of Islamabad and other adjoining areas. The epicentre of the earthquake was 232km deep in Badakhshan area of Afghanistan-Tajikistan border. No loss of live or damage to property has been reported so far.

A pair of moderate earthquakes shook northwest Oklahoma late Wednesday night, part of a swarm of Sooner State temblors that has produced more than two dozen quakes in less than 24 hours.


In October last year, at least 200 people were killed and more than 1,300 others injured as a powerful 7.5- magnitude earthquake -- the strongest in 10 years --rocked Pakistan, sending severe shock waves as far as Punjab and PoK.
